KIRAN SKARIAH never thought he would find love in a doughnut shop.
But on June 6, 2014, his love of Krispy Kreme white hot chocolates also led him to the love of his life — Sarah.
While waiting tables at the local Liverpool Krispy Kreme cafe, Sarah made her move on Kiran after she saw him enter through the front doors and ordering his favourite drink.
“Sarah wasn’t supposed to be working at Krispy Kreme on the day we met because of exams, but decided to cover a shift anyway,†Mr Skariah said.
“I wasn’t supposed to go in to Krispy Kreme that day either, but my friend was keen for a doughnut so I went along too.â€
Kiran admitted that when he was served by Sarah, he didn’t recognise the woman standing in front of him.
“She served me and looked at me for a bit,†Mr Skarian said.
“She said: ‘You don’t remember me, do you?’ and I didn’t. Turns out that although we hadn’t officially met, she’d known my family for around 18 years.
“She was quite forward, and even admitted to being at my house before without me knowing. She made me laugh, we added each other on Facebook and then things started from there.â€
Kiran said that since their first meet, they’ve become known as the ‘Krispy Kreme’ couple between their friends and family. Every anniversary, the pair would drive to Liverpool and have a doughnut and a white hot chocolate to celebrate their time together.
“We always go there and at least take a photo in Krispy Kreme on our anniversary, Mr Skarian said.
“On the first year we had our ‘meet-adversary,’ and we taped it.â€
But last December, almost two years after meeting, Kiran decided to propose to Sarah — which transpired into a Krispy Kreme themed wedding on Saturday.
“We have a sweet spot for Krispy Kreme, and that’s why a lot of our friends and family call us the ‘Krispy Kreme couple’,†he said.
“Our wedding cake is inspired by their doughnuts, and if it’s our birthday we will get doughnut covered cards.â€
After the ceremony, which was held at Parkside Church in Edensor Park, both Sarah and Kiran and their bridal party went to Krispy Kreme in Liverpool for a photoshoot of their big day.
“Sarah’s first memory of me is when I walked through the door of Krispy Kreme, so we will take a photo of us doing that together on our wedding day,†he said.
“There’s also going to be a photo with the big Krispy Kreme sign in the background, and us drinking a white hot chocolate and eating a doughnut together.
“It’s a very exciting day.â€
