A cable technician has been charged with the murder of a man who was dumped at a Werribee hospital last month after being assaulted in a truck parking area.
Nuri Balla, 30, of Brooklyn, appeared at an out-of-sessions hearing at the Melbourne West police station shortly after 8pm, wearing a grey St Kilda Football Club hoodie, dark tracksuit pants and mauve thongs.
He kept the hoodie over his head as he sat throughout the hearing with his hands tucked into the top of his pants, swinging his legs back and forth and yawning loudly as the charges against him were read.
Mr Balla apologised after the bail justice said his behaviour was "disrespectful" and "flippant".
Detective Leading Senior Constable Joseph Strachan told the hearing that the dead man, Aaron Burnett of Hoppers Crossing, had been assaulted in the truck parking area behind a Caltex service station in Kealba about 4.42am on Sunday, July 3.
A short while later Mr Burnett was left at the door of the emergency department of Werribee Mercy Hospital, where he died from his injuries before 6am.
Asked by the bail justice whether he had work, Mr Balla said "yeah", adding that he was a cable technician who did subcontracting, and worked on residential properties.
The bail justice asked Mr Balla what plans he had for the next day, to which Mr Balla's first response was: "I was actually going for pizza."
Asked about any other plans he said he had planned to "look after my grandparents." He also added: "They're both unwell, they've both got cancer."
In an exchange with the bail justice in the final minutes of the hearing, Mr Balla indicated that he was hungry. "I haven't eaten all day," he said.
Mr Balla was remanded in custody and will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.
