Keyboard warriors have taken a toll on mummy blogger, Mel Watts.

WHEN ‘The Modern Mumma’ Mel Watts shared a story about making time for a “quickie” as a parent, it was quickly praised by sympathetic mums and dads.

But then her post went viral and attracted 204 shares, and almost 700 comments. With that huge reach came a new wave of readers who weren’t as kind as her fans.

The mum-of-three broke down after being personally attacked and posted a teary video message to the haters on YouTube on Tuesday.

On Saturday, Mel shared a story about her and her husband, Nolan, having a quick daytime romp after he relentlessly annoyed her with sex jokes and inappropriate poking and prodding.

But soon after she posted the story to Facebook, she copped intense backlash, with some readers calling it “humiliating”, “degrading” and “insulting”.

One user wrote, “why are you posting this sh*t online?” Another wrote “and you wonder why spouses stray.”

Others took it further and started to personally attack the mum, her husband, her children, and her mothering skills.

On Tuesday, through tears, she hit back at the trolls for causing her pain. Her video captioned, “Going viral isn’t all that. Keyboard warriors and keyboard trolls you won”, aimed to show bullies the person on other side of the screen.

The Central Coast NSW mum told her viewers it wasn’t kids who bullied, but their parents after being flooded with “hundreds” of insulting comments about her.

“I’ve seen huge amount of resources and money go into teaching our children about bullying. The actual problem isn’t our children, it’s the parents,” she says.

She was called a “basic low-income woman” and men would “hate to have a child” with her.

“All I did was write an opinion, and everyone is saying horrible things about me that aren’t true,” she says. “You either like it or you don’t, if you don’t have anything nice to say then scroll on, you don’t troll.”

Even when she deleted mean comments and blocked the users, they tried to contact her on her other social media accounts.

“They started personally messaging me. I’ve had numerous people try and contact me in other ways, and write horrible things,” she says.

“It’s not called for. They go write nasty things so everyone else has a sh*t day, and I have to sit here and feel like I am the one who is failing.”

She defends herself by saying she is a “good wife, really good mother, and most of all a really good friend” and the abuse was not necessary.

“You don’t know me. Would you stay this stuff to me in the street? People need to know there is someone else behind that screen,” she says.

She admits people tell her that if she can’t handle the abuse, and negative feedback, she shouldn’t share so much of her life.

But why should Mel be the one that has to put up with the horrible, nasty and insulting comments? It should be the bullies and the trolls that are told to get off the internet.

“No one should have to tolerate it, no one in this whole world,” Mel says.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re Kim f***king Kardashian, or a nobody like me sitting at home while their kids are playing and their husband is at work.

“I don’t have to tolerate it, no one has to tolerate it.”

Since posting the video to her Facebook page, hundreds of fans have given her support.

One user wrote: “It’s a shame you have to hurt to the point of tears. Seriously the world and the people are getting worse every single day. As long as you know that you are good enough, and you are a good mother and wife I would pay no attention to the keyboard warriors.”
