Venice Beach meets Bondi: two of the winning holiday snaps that Qantas and Bird & Knoll have turned into designer scarves.

NOT content with just photographing a favourite destination, the flying Kangaroo asked flyers to submit holiday snaps of their favourite destinations.

Four of those Qantas passengers then had their personal holiday snaps turned into luxury limited edition silk scarves as part of a collaboration between Qantas and cool-school Australian designers Bird & Knoll. The label’s scarves are favoured by celebrities including Miranda Kerr and Rachel Hunter.

It’s the second year in a row that Qantas and Bird & Knoll have worked together to combine fashion and travel after the debut of the Feels Like Home scarf last year, inspired by a Qantas trend ambassador, Jessica Hart and her hometown of Melbourne.

The 2016 Destinations scarf series captures the essence of four Qantas destinations photographed by travellers who submitted an image they had taken of their favourite destination as part of a Qantas Instagram competition.

The panel of judges including Vogue Editor, Edwina McCann, Bird & Knoll founders Macayla Chapman and Natalie Knoll and Qantas Digital Consultant Nicole Warne selected the winning entries.

The images depicted four very different destination scenes including Tamworth (NSW), Venice Beach (Los Angeles), a wild giraffe in the mist (South Africa) and Bondi’s iconic Iceberg ocean baths (Sydney).

The images were then translated onto 90cm x 90cm silk designer scarves. The winning entry destinations include Tamworth by Colin Goddard from Sydney; Bondi from Samantha Herbut of Adelaide; South Africa by Soseh Demirian from Sydney and Venice Beach in Los Angeles, that was shot by Carly Chan of Auckland.

Bird & Knoll’s design photographer Natalie Knoll said she was impressed with the calibre of images submitted and in particular, the raw authenticity of the images which were all shot spontaneously during travel adventures.

“All four of the images by our guest photographers are captivating in different ways,’ says Natalie Knoll.

“Bondi and Venice Beach are both bold with bursts of bright colours and activity, while South Africa and Tamworth use soft light to highlight the warmth and beauty of animal and landscape.

“The composition of each image is clever and they all translate perfectly into a Bird & Knoll scarf.”

Qantas Group Executive Brand, Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Olivia Wirth, said the new scarves were a great showcase of Australian talent: “We all love sharing our adventures and travel experiences on social media, but to have your work featured on a Bird & Knoll scarf is definitely the next level up,” said Ms Wirth.

“It’s obvious that there are some incredibly gifted Qantas customers out there, and we love the way their images capture the magic of travel in a really natural, evocative way.

“The scarves are a beautiful new travel accessory and we’re absolutely delighted to be helping a

fantastic, innovative young Australian brand like Bird & Knoll grow its business.”

The Qantas x Bird & Knoll Destinations series scarves will be available for purchase at www.qantasshop.com.au, inskyshopping.com, Birdandknoll.com, select stockists and will retail for $132.
