IDINA Menzel has been cast as CC Bloom, the role made famous by Bette Midler, in a remake of the classic hit movie.
The 45-year-old, whose career was kickstarted in the musical Rent and later won a Tony Award for originating the role of Elphaba in the musical Wicked, is perhaps best known for voicing Elsa in the Disney movie Frozen and her soaring vocals on the song, Let it Go.
John Travolta made sure no one would ever forget her name when he introduced her at the Oscars as Adele Darzeem, spawning countless memes.
Menzel took to Instagram to share the news about shooting the TV movie.
“Can’t wait to start shooting #Beaches remake for @lifetimetv!†she wrote.
Beaches tells the story of two girls who meet on a beach and become lifelong friends.
The Garry Marshall-directed movie was a surprise hit, due to the platonic love story that plays out between CC (Midler) and Hillary (Barbara Hershey).
Hershey’s role has yet to be cast.
