A 32-year-old man charged with murder and attempted murder in Townsville in north Queensland chose not to have legal representation when his case was mentioned in court.
Anthony O'Keefe was charged with murder over the death of 81-year-old Elizabeth Kippin at her Wulguru home on Tuesday night.
Ms Kippin's body was found in her home by a neighbour on Wednesday morning.
O'Keefe is facing 18 charges, including two counts of attempted murder, seven counts of wilful damage, two counts of seriously assaulting police, and three counts of seriously obstructing police.
He allegedly also stabbed a 26-year-old woman at a separate house and a 28-year-old man had his face slashed in a nearby street on Tuesday night.
Police allege O'Keefe ran naked down several streets, smashing cars and ripping up fences.
On Friday, O'Keefe was put under police guard in Townsville Hospital but was taken into custody that same afternoon.
He did not appear in court in Townsville this morning, but the court heard he had declined legal representation.
The court heard applications had been made for a disease-test order as several police officers were exposed to O'Keefe's bodily fluids on the day he was arrested.
The magistrate advised that O'Keefe would need to get legal representation, before adjourning the case until Monday.
