POKEMON GO encourages people to walk through the real world in order to catch ‘em all, but some players are proudly and publicly cheating the system.
Using Twitch — the biggest game-streaming platform in the world — Lord_Cloudy has proudly been broadcasting himself using GPS spoofing software to trick the game.
While smoking on a vaporiser from the dark confines of his home, Lord_Cloudy has been tricking the game into thinking he is at a location of his choosing.
The obvious advantage of this cheating method means players can teleport anywhere in the world to catch rare Pokemon from locations across the globe.
Additionally, players can use their keyboard to emulate the walking necessary to hatch eggs containing rare Pokemon.
To publicly broadcast himself cheating is a brazen move as it breaks the game developer’s guidelines of Pokemon Go, while simultaneously violating Twitch’s terms of service.
Knowing he is breaking the rules, Lord_Cloudy puts a disclaimer on his stream.
“WARNING This is NOT my MAIN ACCOUNT and also on this account I DO NOT BATTLE at GYMS as it would ruin others game and I would have an unfair advantage,†he wrote.
Admittedly, Lord_Cloudy will have no effect on other players if he avoids the gyms in the game, although this doesn’t change the fact he is still cheating the system.
Another streamer and Twitch partner — meaning people pay to subscribe to his channel — has even developed a video guide showing players how to use GPS spoofing software.
Speaking to viewers during a broadcast this week, Jagrawr justified his use of the cheating software, explaining he would still play the game normally too.
“There’s a lot of reasons to do this,†he said.
“Maybe you’re handicapped. You’re sick. It’s raining. I don’t know. There’s a lot of reasons. Like I said, I’m still going to go and play on my actual phone.â€
According toTheDaily Dot, Twitch said it had not banned those cheating on Pokemon Go during live streams as game developer, Niantic, had not sent any take-down notices.
While Twitch and Niantic might be turning a blind eye, Pokemon Gocommunities on Reddit are calling for the cheats to be banned from the game.
“I’m actually going one by one just reporting the cheaters and if they show their name (although most don’t) I send it to Niantic,†wrote one user.
“Guy named “Superpokecheat†is literally charging viewers $25 to pm them and show them how to use the cheats he's using. I've already been banned from his chat for telling everyone to report him. Honestly, it’s mind boggling how arrogant and confident they are,†wrote another.
