A 40-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after another man was allegedly run down by a car and assaulted in front of a western Sydney house.
Police said the victim was working on a brick fence at the front of the house when he was hit by the car and then assaulted by his alleged attacker.
Emergency services attended the premises at Shalvey about 2:00pm on Saturday and found an unconscious 54-year-old.
He was taken to Sydney's Westmead hospital in a critical condition.
A 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with attempted murder.
Acting Inspector Matt Ireland said that pair knew each other.
"We're still making enquiries at this point so the motive and details are unknown at this stage," he said.
"That will hopefully become known in the next couple of days."
The accused man has been refused bail and he is due to appear at Parramatta local court later today.
