IRWFollowing some serious anticipation in the build-up, Kogan.com listed on the ASX at midday last Thursday. The share price tumbled almost immediately from its opening price of $1.80, slumping 12.2 per cent to $1.58 within 40 minutes. Kogan.com’s share price has since recovered slightly, but analysts believe the online retailer now needs to deliver on the numbers forecast in its prospectus. You can read all about this in the cover story of this week’s issue of IRW.

Further in News this week, we examine the likelihood of British technology company, Dyson, launching a standalone store in Australia; as well as outline Roger Corbett’s thoughts on how Australia’s major supermarket chains can indeed compete with Aldi – and sooner or later, Lidl – on price.

Our Opinion column this week looks at mounting criticism over Wesfarmers’ British hardware play and why Bunnings Warehouse CEO, John Gillam, is adamant the Homebase acquisition will pay dividends.

Features this week kicks off with a look at how an evolution in cinemas is helping shopping centres boost their leisure and entertainment element to maintain foot traffic. We also look at how steering clear of discounting is proving a winning pricing strategy for retailers; take a tour Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que, a food retail experience that all retailers can learn from; and talk to Australian fashion retailers who are committing to Bangladesh as a sourcing destination in the wake of the recent terror attack in Dhaka.
