A MAN accused of stabbing his wife’s niece and dumping her body in a NSW blowhole has been slapped with an additional 27 charges — which reveal the horrifying ordeal Mengmei Leng endured before she was killed.
Derek Barrett, 27, is accused of murdering Chinese university student Ms Leng before the 25-year-old’s naked body was found in water at Snapper Point, on the Central Coast, on April 27.
Barrett faced Burwood Local Court on Wednesday where detectives laid the extra charges including five counts of committing an act of indecency, 17 acts of filming a person’s private parts without consent and two counts of installing a device to film.
Police will allege they discovered images of a naked Ms Leng, with her wrists tied and tape across her mouth, Fairfax reported.
The images were found on a mobile phone linked to Barrett. He is also accused of taking images of a sleeping child, as well as masturbating over the child and Ms Leng.
A former IT worker, Barrett is married to Ms Leng’s aunt. She moved to Australia five years ago from China to study at the University of Technology.
She had been stabbed more than 30 times and also sustained defensive wounds.
A car was seen driving into the Lake Munmorah national park at 7am on April 24 and her body was found later that morning at 10.30am
The case will return to court on August 10.
