Bright blue vino is about to become all the rage in Europe. Picture: Instagram

SAY farewell to rosé, electric blue wine is the next big thing about to hit bottle stores around the world.

A Spanish winemaking start-up called Gik is responsible for creating the strikingly bright beverage, which is reportedly quite sweet and meant to be served chilled.

According to Eater, the innovative vino is made from “an undisclosed blend of red and white grapes predominantly sourced from vineyards around Madrid”.

It also makes for a pretty dreamy Instagram post.

Created by six young Spanish entrepreneurs, the trendy blend has 11.5 per cent ABV and is targeted at Gen Y drinkers who aren’t all that into wine. A 750ml bottle retails for 10 euros (about $15), so it’s pretty reasonable.

“We believe in creative rebellion,” the brand’s website reads. “We want to innovate and build new things, break with the past and invent the future.

“Try to forget all you know about wine. Ignore all the preconceptions and standards regarding [the] wine industry and turn a deaf ear to what the sommelier told you in the wine tasting last week.”

The wine is hued neon blue with anthocyanin (a pigment found in grape skin) and indigo, a dye extracted from plants. The sweetness comes from a calorie-free additive.

With no prior winemaking experience, the Gik co-founders dedicated two years to research and development before having a soft launch of the product in Spain last year.

As for where you can sample some of this rule-defying vino, it is set to hit European markets — including France, the Netherlands, the UK and Germany — in the next few months and the team is reportedly eyeing off the US.

But Aussies may also be in luck. The Gik team tells news.com.au they are “very interested the Australian market” and “would be soon looking for partnership opportunities to cover the country and be able to supply Gïk in Australia.

“Actually, Australia is one of the countries that best fits with our brand guidelines,” a spokesman said.

We couldn’t agree more.
