The beautiful scenery of Australia provides the backdrop for Xbox’s new Forza Horizon 3.

A ROAD trip along the Great Ocean Road is an iconic Aussie journey that is as fair dinkum as double pluggas and a Four’N Twenty pie.

Now, the rest of the globe will have the chance to experience the beauty of Down Under thanks to a new video game showcased by Xbox at this year’s E3.

Forza Horizon has long been one of the landmark titles for the Xbox, known for its open-world racing format in some of the world’s most pristine locations and now it’s our bloody time shine, mate.

Turn 10 Studios design director Jon Knoles said after exploring Italy and the south of France, and Colorado in the first two games, it made sense Australia would be next in line.

“When we choose a world for the Horizon series, geographical beauty and diversity are the kind of things we look for,” he told news.com.au.

“Obviously, Australia has always been in our top three places for that kind of thing.”

While the predecessors offered those aspects, Mr Knoles admits Australia has much more diversity than anything they have ever been able to work with before.

“From the outback to Whitehaven Beach to Byron Bay and the 12 Apostles, Australia was the perfect fit for the open-world driving series,” he said.

“We have showcased the gleaming tall skyscrapers in Surfers Paradise, which is something we have never done before in Horizon.

“Then we also switch from this urban landscape and explore the beautiful tall tress and lush greenery found in the Maroondah rainforest. It’s a dream come true.”

Mr Knoles said Turn 10 picked all its favourite parts of Australia and squeezed them into the biggest open-world environment it had ever designed.

“As always, the roads have been designed to have an authentic feeling, so we sent our guys to photograph every square inch of the east half of the country,” he said.

“We also invented a new camera designed to capture the incredible skyscapes only seen in Australia.

“It was a 360-degree, 12K camera that recorded for 24-hours a day to ensure we captured the different weather and appearances to blend seamlessly with our engine.”

Adding to the authenticity, the game also includes native wildlife such as kangaroos and crocodiles.

However, the rating of the game means you can’t hit a kangaroo while driving — although we all know this would likely make your ride a write-off anyway.

Despite the lack of ability to collect Skippy during a race, Mr Knoles said the team was aware Aussie vehicles in the outback are fitted with bumper bars to protect against such an incident.

“We have made sure we have included these aspects with some vehicles in the games,” he said.

When asked what cars would feature in the game, the design director said there would be all of the cars you would expect from an Aussie setting and some that will come as a surprise.

“We travelled around to find the most pristine vehicles Australia had to offer and collected measurements and captured hundreds, sometimes thousands of pictures to ensure we could recreate them as accurate as possible,” he said.

“In fact, there was one car we were struggling to find and one of guys was just about to leave Australia when we got a phone call saying they had located the car 20 hours north east of where he was.

“So Instead of getting on the plane, he jumped on a train and drove the journey to ensure we had what we needed to include that certain Holden we wanted in the game.”

All of the teams hard yakka and attention to detail will be able to be fully explored in the game’s ForzaVista mode.

Struth! Sounds pretty bloody good to us mate.
