A dejected Storm during their game against the Dragons.

MELBOURNE’S seven-game winning streak has come to an end at the hands of St George Illawarra on Saturday night.

The Storm were fielding a severely understrength side with the likes of Cooper Cronk, Cameron Smith, Cameron Munster, Blake Green, Tim Glasby and Will Chambers all missing.

In Tariq Sims’ first outing as a Dragon, the home side scored three tries to two in a scrappy, dour affair on a cold night in Wollongong.

THE STAR

It’s honestly that hard to find one in such a lacklustre match.

Jason Nightingale filled in admirably at fullback once again and was error-free all night.

The Kiwi international had 17 runs for 135 metres, along with three tackle busts.

It’s likely he’ll move back to the wing for next week’s match against Newcastle with Josh Dugan expected back from an elbow injury.

THE MOMENT

A highlight was young Storm winger Suliasi Vunivalu scoring yet another double.

The Fijian is now the competition’s leading tryscorer with 13 meat pies from just eight games.

What’s even more incredible, is that the 20-year-old is yet to score just one try in a match - he’s bagged five doubles and one hat-trick.

WHAT WE LEARNED

You’d think the Dragons’ attack would’ve sprung into action after 15 rounds against an undermanned Storm outfit - but no.

The Red V had a mountain of possession in the first half yet came up with just one try.

The fact that both sides were missing their Origin stars did contribute to the dour affair, but the Dragons’ offence needs a serious overhaul - and fast.
