SYDNEY rail workers have been left devastated after one of their maintenance employees was struck and killed by a train in Sydney’s west today.
The Sydney Trains employee was working on the T1 Western Line when he was hit by the train heading to Sydney from the Blue Mountains about 6am.
An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the incident, which occurred during the course of “important maintenance workâ€, according to Sydney Trains.
NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance passed on his sympathies to the man’s family, friends and colleagues, saying he was shocked and saddened by the news.
“I know that Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink will work tirelessly with the relevant agencies during the investigation,†he said.
