A new album from Nick Cave looks like it will explore one of the darkest periods of his life, the death of his son last year.
The album, Skeleton Tree – his sixteenth with the Bad Seeds – will be released on September 9 on vinyl, CD and digital but will be preceded by a film, One More Time With Feeling, by director Andrew Dominik, whose breakthrough was the darkly comic Chopper.

One More Time With Feeling had been commissioned as a performance-based production but, according to the press release, it "evolved into something much more significant as Dominik delved into the tragic backdrop of the writing and recording of the album".

Cave's 15-year-old son Arthur died when he fell from a cliff top in Brighton, where the family has lived for many years, in July 2015. At the inquest the coroner noted that the family described him as "a bright, shiny, funny, complex boy and we loved him deeply".
As well as performances, One More Time With Feeling will have interviews and Cave providing some narration and what's described as "improvised rumination".

The film will screen in more than 650 cinemas around the world on September 8, preparing the way for Skeleton Tree on September 9.
