THE man still missing in waters off Bondi Beach has been named as Sydney University student Endicott Ackerman.

The 20-year-old has been missing since witnesses reported watching him jump from rocks near Icebergs at the south end of Bondi about 3pm on Monday.

The Daily Telegraph reported no one has reported Mr Ackerman missing but it is understood he is the man police are searching for. His family in the United States have been informed about the ongoing search.

A search involving the Westpac rescue helicopter and several jetskis has been ongoing since Monday. It was called off on Monday night and resumed at first light but there has been no sign of him.

Witnesses said he was struggling to get back up after jumping into the swirling waters but was pounded by strong waves.

One witness told AAP he was standing on rocks close to the swell.

“He just jumped in when the waves were going out and when the waves came in again he went under and couldn’t keep up,” he said.

“Then he just disappeared.”

Mr Ackerman’s belongings were found at south Bondi a short time after he went missing.

WOMAN’S BODY DISCOVERED NOT FAR FROM BONDI BEACH

A BODY of a woman has been found a short distance from Sydney’s Bondi Beach during the search for a missing swimmer.

Police confirmed the body was pulled from the water at Dover Heights, around the northern headland from Bondi, just before 3pm.

“Water police located the body of a female, believed to be aged in her 20s, floating in the water, about 100m from the shore at Dover Heights,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“At this stage the woman has not been formally identified.”

The discovery of the woman’s body at Dover Heights takes the death toll from the deadly storms to five. The body of a woman who went missing in Tasmania was found earlier on Tuesday morning.

Two bodies were found in cars in separate incidents in southwest Sydney and the Southern Highlands and another died after powerful waters flipped his two-tonne ute in Canberra.

BODY OF MISSING TASMANIAN WOMAN FOUND

THE body of a woman who went missing in Tasmania’s worst storm in 90 years has been found as rescuers face a desperate search to find other missing victims.

Authorities confirmed the body of Mary Kathleen Allford has been recovered after floodwaters subsided near her Latrobe home.

Mrs Allford’s husband was rescued from the roof of the property yesterday, however grave concerns remain for two others still missing across Tasmania.

The search is continuing for an 81-year-old Ouse man swept away from his backyard by floodwaters and for an Evandle man caught in floodwaters while delivering newspapers, The Mercury reported.

News of Mrs Allford’s death comes as rescuers continue their desperate search to find a man who disappeared after jumping into large swells in Sydney yesterday.

The deadly storm wreaked a trail of destruction across Australia’s east coast over the weekend, claiming four lives with fears that number could soon rise.

THREE PEOPLE CONFIRMED DEAD ON MONDAY

Three people have been confirmed dead in NSW after their vehicles were swept away by floodwaters.

Bowral man Robbie Pollard died after becoming stuck in flood waters in Bowral.

His car was dragged by the current for at least 1km until it became trapped in a fast-running creek, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Mr Pollard was one three men to have lost their lives in the killer storm.

Ahmed Elomar, 70, drowned while attempting to drive his ute through floodwaters on a closed road in western Sydney and a 37-year-old man died in Canberra when his car was submerged in water.

Emergency services have been left “absolutely frustrated” by people who enter floodwaters despite repeated, clear warnings to stay away from them, with both police and the SES stressing people are placing their lives at great risk by doing so.

“Please heed our advice, your life could depend on it,” acting Assistant Commissioner Kyle Stewart said, adding many of the 290 flood rescues across NSW could have been avoided.

PATH OF DESTRUCTION

The destructive low-pressure system moved south to Tasmania yesterday and a flood watch has been issued for all the state’s river basins.

Rain from the massive storm that hit Australia’s east coast is easing, allowing police to pick up the search for the missing.

The floods gripping Tasmania are said to be the worst since 1929.

More than 100 people have been rescued by helicopter in the island state, and at least 100 homes have been inundated.

The damage bill is likely to run into the millions of dollars, the Herald Sun reported.
