CAN you fix an underwhelming renovation in just 24 hours? The House Rules contestants prove it’s possible, overhauling the weakest zones in their own homes with a single day and a tiny $5,000 budget.
After Sunday’s first elimination, the remaining teams in Channel Seven’s epic reality reno competition went home for the fix-up challenge.
And tonight, their whirlwind efforts were unveiled. For one couple, it wasn’t good enough and they were eliminated.

Without a wink of sleep, weary Adelaide parents Brooke and Michelle scored their first victory in the competition so far and won the task.
They took on their living room, hallway and laundry by overhauling the colour scheme — gone is the turquoise and burnt orange palette.
Judge Wendy Moore said the freshly painted and balanced wall colours paired with a DIY art project gave the home a funky edge.
Country Queensland twins Luke and Cody came in a close second for changing the wood panelling in their bathroom and channelling a bit of George Clooney in Cody’s bedroom.
While Victorian duo Claire and Hagan introduced a bit of modesty to their ensuite with a privacy screen.
It was a huge hit with the judges, as was the DIY timber work around their balustrade.
At the bottom of the leaderboard, it was just one point that saved Melbourne veterans Fil and Joe from being given the boot.
Their ambitious fix-up zone included the living room, hallway and a main bathroom, with serious layout issues to address.
Wendy pointed out they’d bitten off more than they could chew, but did an acceptable job considering.
For Sydney couple Nancy and Daniel, it was a lack of passion that saw them score lowest and eliminated.
“We thank every team for the work they did on our house,†a devastated Nancy said.
Final leaderboard
Brooke and Michelle — 17
Luke and Cody — 16
Claire and Hagan — 15
Fil and Joe — 13
Nancy and Daniel — 12
The four remaining teams are now set to embrace the winter cold as they head outdoors to transform gardens and exteriors.
House Rules airs Sunday at 7pm and Monday and Tuesday at 7.30pm on Seven.
