Women complain more about bond disputes than men, according to Don’t Rent Me figures.

WOMEN renters overwhelmingly complain more about bond disputes than men, with new figures revealing they are behind 78 per cent of complaints.

Bond issues were the most complained about issue by renters on tenant’s website, Don’t Rent Me.

It found the suburbs worst affected by bond related issues were Randwick in New South Wales, Southport in Queensland, Morphett Vale in South Australia, Frankston in Victoria and Quinns Rock and Shelley in Western Australia.

Queensland accounted for the highest share of complaints about bonds, followed by South Australian renters.

Anthony Zieball of Don’t Rent Me said some of those suburbs had a high number of rental properties, which could be why they had a high number of complaints.

Or, he said, the area could have a larger proportion of older properties in which maintenance issues were in dispute.

Mr Zieball was surprised at the finding that the majority of those complaining about bond issues were women.

He said it could be because many handled the family finances.

He said bond disputes and delays could be major problems for renters as it made moving into the next rental property difficult without that money to pay a new bond.

“When a bond is in dispute it can be very difficult to move in to a new place because it requires the inhabitant to save for the new bond, while still being out of pocket,’’ he said.
