ANDREW Bolt grilled Bronwyn Bishop on why she turned against Tony Abbott in the leadership spill that led to Malcolm Turnbull’s rise to the top job.
Mrs Bishop has also told Sky News earlier that Prime Minister Turnbull miscalculated in not going to an early election in March this year.
She said the eight-week double dissolution election was a high-stakes gamble which has seen a deadlock in the two party preferred vote across numerous polls.
In her view, a better strategy would have been to turn the midyear economic review in December last year into a mini-budget.
Then she said Mr Turnbull could have called an election in January for the end of March.
If Australia went to an early election, she said it would have given the Liberal party an opportunity to gain more from Mr Turnbull’s popularity.
