HUGH Hefner appears to have found the perfect buyer for the Playboy Mansion who has agreed to let the 90-year-old live there until he dies.
The New York Post reports that Daren Metropoulos, Hefner’s 32-year-old neighbour, is in a contract to buy the estate.
“He wants to bring the [5.3-acre Beverly Hills-area] property back to the original history of the location,†Mr Metropoulos’s father, Dean Metropolous said.
It will be “totally different†from the way Playboy founder Hefner has operated the estate since 1971, when he acquired what became the Playboy mansion.
Mr Metropolous, who presently lives next door to the mansion, plans to reconnect the two estates, which originally constituted the Wolfskill Ranch.
As part of the deal, Hefner, 90, gets to live in his estate until he dies.
Mr Metropoulos — who co-owns and helps run snack food company Hostess — paid well below the $US200 million ($272 million) asking price, two sources said.
It is believed he was able to snatch the property for around $US100 million.
Still, if any single women are interested in dating the newest owner of the Playboy Mansion, his hobbies are skiing and snowboarding, having grown up in Vermont, his father said.
“He is a very serious young man. He’s very engaged in business,†Dean Metropoulos said of his son. “He is not a playboy at all.â€
Dean and his sons Daren and Evan are the principals of Metropoulos & Co., which runs Hostess, and he has controlled Pabst Blue Ribbon, Ghirardelli Chocolate, Pinnacle Foods (the parent of Vlasic Pickles) and Morningstar Foods.
