Daniel Petre reckons robots will take on many jobs in the future, but not real estate.

ROBOTS will be doing many of the jobs humans do now in the future, but they won’t replace them in the real estate industry.

Despite advances in technology which will see robots carry out things such as routine surgery and driving our cars, the real estate industry will still need people according to one of Australia’s leading internet entrepreneurs Daniel Petre.

Mr Petre who once worked with Microsoft founder Bill Gates, was on the Gold Coast speaking at the Australasian Real Estate Conference to almost 4000 agents.

He said as technology advanced further robots would be used for many tasks that only people could do now.

New technology would affect all industries in the coming years and Mr Petre predicted 52 per cent of current jobs would disappear because of new technology.

He said robots would deliver medications to patients in hospital, and would be used more extensively in retail.

A robot known as BRETT, the Berkeley Robot for the Elimination of Tedious Tasks, had already been taught how to fold towels.

“It can now fold towels better than a human can fold towels, what they want to do is try to teach BRETT to perform surgery,’’ he said.

“It’s more than likely that your kids won’t learn how to drive,’’ he said, instead they would be in automated driving cars.

Mr Petre said evolving technology would mean “massive change” for the real estate industry.

He assured agents they would not be the casualties of the coming tech revolution if they differentiate themselves in their industry to stay viable in the long term.

“There will always be people required in real estate,” Mr Petre said.

“I’m not suggesting agents won’t be there, they will be there.

“But price estimation will always be done better by software than any human being. Local data is provided far better by software than individuals.”

Mr Petre said if you want a job in the future there were three attribute people needed to have.

That was an ability to solve high order abstract problems, be creative and learn how to work with people.
