Kyle Sandilands has opened up to Meshel Laurie.

A GRIEF stricken Kyle Sandilands says he regularly projectile vomits following the death of his father.

The 44-year-old KIIS FM radio host opened up to Mamamia confessing that sometimes going to work and having to laugh and joke on air really is the last thing he feels like doing following his dad’s death.

“I probably put myself into a stupid emotional state where I start projectile vomiting for eight-hours,” he said candidly.

News of his father, Peter’s death broke in March when the shock jock took to the airwaves emotionally telling listeners he’d been unwell and had sadly passed away.

Since then Kyle’s been open about his struggle to cope, revealing to Meshel Laurie that his death has bought up a lot of past hurts.

He described his childhood as “toxic” fuelled with alcoholism and “two parents that weren’t in love with each other”.

“In my mind … from being a child, around that alcoholism, I thought, that might be the poison, like if that’s in me, then maybe I could be that devil. So I just always avoided alcohol, and obviously that’s a weird issue. Plenty of people drink and they don’t get violent … but my mum was a victim of that sort of behaviour …” Kyle said in the Mamamia interview.

The star, who’s in a long-term relationship with 25-year-old Imogen Anthony, also admitted that because of the abuse he saw in his earlier years he’s “super sensitive to women”.

“I think being with my mum who was a victim of that sort of behaviour, I think that made me quite soft”.

While Kyle says he was on good terms with his father before he passed away, it took many years for the pair to heal the hurt of his childhood.

“No one ever discussed what went on when I was a kid, you grow up and I was out of home when I was a teenager and was bitter towards my parents – I didn’t have a relationship with them for seven years,” he explained

“I sort of had a pretend relationship with them both for many years,” he said adding, “It was only the last five or ten years that I forgave them – it’s not until you realise they were just kids when they had me”.

Emotionally, Kyle said he wishes he’d resolved things earlier with his dad.

“It’s not until he’s gone that you realise I’ve wasted all of these years being angry about something we should have probably talked about much earlier”.
