SOUTH Sydney could hardly hold the ball in the first half but managed to sneak away with a win over St George Illawarra at ANZ Stadium.
The Bunnies were slow out of the box and allowed the Dragons to lead early, but some Cody Walker magic for a 40th minute try put the home side slightly in front.
The lead seesawed after the break but a controversial try awarded by the video bunker to South Sydney in the 62nd minute sealed the result.
The bunker ruled Josh Dugan had not grounded a ball in his own ingoal and awarded the Rabbitohs the crucial four points.
Dugan was injured in the act and played out the game in pain.
THE STAR
Adam Reynolds. The Souths halfback came into the match with the added pressure of talk surrounding a possible Origin call-up for the Blues.
The 25-year-old’s kicking game was excellent, with his boot leading to two tries.
NSW coach Laurie Daley may have found his No.7.
THE DUNCE
The Burgess brothers. All three of them - Sam, George and Tom - looked like they had butter on their hands instead of sticky spray. Their ball-handling was terrible. In just the opening 20 minutes, Tom and Sam had turned over the ball four times between them.
THE MOMENT
It was a controversial moment that divided commentators and fans alike.
In the 62nd minute Adam Renyolds put a kick through and it appeared Josh Dugan had grounded it. On-field referee Matt Cecchin ruled ‘no try’ but sent it up to the bunker who ruled that Dugan has in fact not grounded it, but Carter had and overturned the on-field decision.
At that point the difference two just two, but Souths were able to get out to an eight-point lead and run away with the game.
Dugan emerged from the incident with an elbow injury which is sure to give a headache to both the Dragons and Daley.
