POLICE are investigating the mystery death of a man in Melbourne’s north.

Emergency services were called to reports of a grassfire in a paddock near the old Bunnings warehouse on the corner of Cooper and High streets in Epping about 3.10pm.

Firefighters put out the small blaze before finding the man’s body nearby.

Police are treating the man’s death as suspicious.

Investigators are looking into whether the man was electrocuted as his body lay under a tree near a fenced off industrial electrical box with signs warning of “high voltage”.

But they have also not ruled out self-harm.

“Police are still working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death,” police spokeswoman Belinda Batty said.

She said the man’s body is yet to be identified.

Initial reports an explosion was heard could not be confirmed.

Anyone with further information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or they can file a confidential report at www.crimstoppersvic.com.au.
