Perth man Keith Allan Hughes has appeared in court over the stabbing murder of another man in Perth's north yesterday.

Police and an ambulance were called to an Amelia Street property in Balcatta about 5:00pm.

A 41-year-old man was treated at the scene for serious injuries and taken to Royal Perth Hospital where he died.

Hughes, 49, who police say knew the victim, has been charged with his murder.

Hughes had significant damage to his eye and face when he appeared in a Perth court this morning.

He was remanded in custody and is set to reappear in the Stirling Gardens Magistrates court on May 25.

Police have asked witnesses or anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
