LIFESTYLE and sleepwear brand Peter Alexander is celebrating the diversity of mums this Mother’s Day.
So much so, the designer has enlisted the fashion nous and expertise of Australian national treasure and self-anointed ‘bad’ mother, Dame Edna Everage.
While Mother’s Day campaigns are designed to ‘celebrate’ mothers of all ages and walks of
life it is also around to celebrate the ‘bond’ they share with their children.
And of course, Dame Edna’s children, share a bond with their mother like no other.
Moonee Ponds born Edna has three adult children, Bruce, fashion designer Kenny, and Valmai.
As for her own ‘mothering’ technique, Edna always employed a special approach.
“I’ve always believed in benevolent neglect,’’ the great Dame Edna told Sunrise’s Edwina Bartholemew.
“I wasn’t a good mother,’’ she adds.
“I found success very early in my life. And went with it.â€
The inimitable and always amusing Dame has joined a roll call of super mums aged from their 20s to their 70s and from an array of unique backgrounds, including Julie Burgess and her Rugby League superstar sons George and Tom; model and new mum Louise van der Vorst and her beautiful bump, and even a mum to a brood of furry four-legged ‘kids’ in the pjs campaign.
“This Mother’s Day we wanted to celebrate some of the different types of mothers in this world:
some more traditional mums, and some not so, like the fabulous Dame Edna, Mother of
Possums,’’ says Peter Alexander.
“This year, I’m celebrating them all! So take a moment to say thanks and appreciate your mum, whatever type she might be,’’ adds Peter.
The Mother’s Day collection features styles to suit every taste, including pyjama sets,
sleep tees, mix-and-match basics and robes in a range of florals, tartans, neutrals and playful
prints, plus on-trend button through jumpsuits and Peter’s signature quirky slippers for pampering mum’s tootsies — offering the perfect gifts to celebrate the achievements and individuality of every super mum on Mother’s Day, May 8.
And some final words from Dame Edna?
“My advice is if you want to be happy, put your family last,’’ adds the Dame.
“They’ll never thank you.â€
