A gunman who fatally shot a 23-year-old man and injured a father and son in a triple shooting is on the run from police.

The men involved have links to outlaw bikie gangs, police say.

The dead man, who was also related to the injured men, was shot in a driveway in Banksia Grove in Perth's outer north on Tuesday night and died on the way to hospital.

The men were known to police but whether the shooting was connected to the bikie links had not been established, Detective Inspector Mark Fyfe said.

About seven people had been socialising at the Cassia Link home when the shooter turned up and a fight broke out in the street, police have been told.

Police received numerous phone calls from neighbours after hearing the altercation, shouting and shots, Det Insp Fyfe said.

The dead man, from Wanneroo, is a relative of the injured father and son.

The son, 24, from Wanneroo, was shot in the arm, while his 53-year-old father was shot in the leg.

Their injuries were not life-threatening and police would speak to them on Wednesday, Det Fyfe said.

"It's of great concern to us - a man deceased as a result of a shooting in a public street," he said.

He did not believe the public were at risk from the shooter.

Premier Colin Barnett described the shooting as disturbing.

"Australia is one of the best countries in the world in limiting access to firearms but unfortunately people can smuggle guns in, get hold of them often illegally," he told reporters.
