Comedian and writer Louis C.K. is millions of dollars in debt because he failed to promote his self-made star-studded web comedy series Horace and Pete.

The show, which stars Louis C.K. and Steve Buscemi as co-owners of an Irish bar, was launched in January without a publicity campaign, although it was plugged on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The cast also features Jessica Lange, Alan Alda and Edie Falco.

C.K. told The Howard Stern Show he had no backers for the project and instead spent $2 million of his own money to make Horace and Pete. It is available on his website and each episode costs between $2 and $5 to watch.

"It will hurt, and it will leave me with no cushion in life, but I'm willing to do that," C.K. told Stern about self-funding the series.

"I'll go on the road, doing stand-up, afterwards, and I'll make it back."

But he had no regrets, calling the show: "The best thing I've ever done."

Stern asked C.K. why he hadn't promoted Horace and Pete more widely since January.

"I got so excited about having the show appear from nothing," C.K. admitted.

"So I made the first four, and I didn't tell nobody and it made a nice little amount of money ... when I got to episode four, I was like, 'Hey gang, I don't have any money.' So I had to take out a line of credit."
