THERE is nothing better than when a lighthearted tribute gets the full buy-in from all involved.
A string of courtside reporters in the US showed exactly that with a touching salute to one of the best TV personalities the NBA has seen — Craig Sager.
Sager announced in late 2014 that he had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. After a brief period of remission, the 64-year-old’s condition worsened in March this year, and he was given three-six months to live.
Well renowned among players and staff throughout the NBA and NCAA competitions, Sager has made a name for himself as a rather flamboyant dresser, often appearing on camera in as outrageous a suit as possible.
So in true Sager fashion, courtside reporters dug out their loudest and most shocking formal outfits in support of the hashtag #SidelineforSager.
While reporters did their best to match the TNT reporter’s style, none came close to Sager’s own career-best effort.
During an interview with then-Boston Celtics Kevin Garnett, Sager displayed his loudest outfit to date. A bright pink jacket covered his red and white pin-stripped shirt, complete with a blue and purple spotted tie. Sager finished his outfit with stunning red suit pants and matching shoes and socks.
Unfortunately, the attire didn’t sit well with 15-time NBA All-Star Garnett, who ripped into the reporter in what became one of the most hilariously notorious interview of all time.
At least he never wears the same thing twice.
