REMEMBER when Instagram said your feed’s photos and videos would soon be showing up in order of what the site believes you’ll engage with the most?
Well, it now appears these changes might not be coming anytime soon.
The photo sharing app had announced plans to follow in the footsteps of Facebook and Twitter by a new algorithm-based feed, rather than showing your entire feed in reverse-chronological order.
“The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post,†Instagram wrote on its blog.
“If your favourite musician shares a video from last night’s concert, it will be waiting for you when you wake up, no matter how many accounts you follow or what time zone you live in.
“And when your best friend posts a photo of her new puppy, you won’t miss it.â€
The news sent Instagram users into meltdown, causing the social media app to backflip on its first announcement by releasing a tweet announcing there would be no immediate changes.
Wait. What?
Speaking with Business Insider, Instagram said it would still implement the changes, but not for some time.
“We have weeks or even months of testing to go,†a spokesman said.
These claims have done very little to calm the nerves of high profile Instagram users worried their posts will disappear in the new format.
Over the past few days, there has been a plethora of popular accounts urging Instragrammers to turn on “notifications†to ensure they will continue to see their posts.
Guess they are just trying to avoid the inevitable.
