A MAN charged with manslaughter over the death of his housemate following an altercation at their Brisbane home has been granted bail.

Aaron Llewellyn Jones, 28, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today for the second time.

He has been in custody since officers found 30-year-old Joel Charlesworth unconscious at the back of a Murarrie house following an alleged dispute between the two housemates shortly before midnight on Sunday.

It is alleged Jones put Mr Charlesworth in a headlock twice, but his lawyers have claimed he could have a case for self defence.

The court was told Jones had undergone a mental health assessment and was fit for release.

He was ordered not to contact five prosecution witnesses and his case will be before the court again next month.
