IT’s the emotional reunion the celebrities have been waiting for. Families of Laurina Fleure, Brendan Fevola and Paul Harragon have flown to South Africa to see first-hand what their loved ones have been experiencing this past six weeks in the jungle camp on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!

Alex Fevola

Brendan Fevola’s wife Alex has described the six week jungle stint as “life changing” for her partner.

“Just having so much time to think has really given him a new perspective on a lot of things,” she said. “I think it has been an amazing experience for him.”

Alex has flown to South Africa with the couple’s three daughters — Mia, Lenni and Lulu.

In an episode that aired last week, Fevola said he hoped appearing on the show would repair his public image as an ‘idiot’.

“He loves any kind of a challenge anyway but also probably to give people a chance to see him more as he is,” she said. “It is a risk because you are always at the mercy of the TV producers and so it can be frightening to do something like this but thankfully the producers have been really great and have shown an even spread of everyone.”

Also in the camp, Fevola has opened up about his time in rehab for alcohol and gambling.

“He did make a few mistakes early on and they were so blown out of proportion, it was like he couldn’t put a foot right,” she said. “It has been hard for him to get out from under that and it has taken a good long time out of the public eye and a bit of maturing as well and he has come back and done this and been able to be seen really for the first time as he actually is. People think he is this big party boy and he was but no more than anyone else he played football with. He loves a good time but he is predominantly a family man.”

Pam Harragon

Paul ‘The Chief’ Harragon’s wife Pam is travelling with the couple’s two sons — Luke and Daniel.

“The boys are so chuffed to be here, the only tiniest flaw is that our daughter Emily is not here to share it with us,” Pam said. “If we didn’t come over, he’d be trying to explain everything to us and he would know that he would never be able to do it justice so now that we are here, we will know exactly what he is talking about. The trip that we’ve just been on to get here, wow he has just been so far away and I can’t believe we are here.”

The former Newcastle Knights captain quickly became the camp leader and has provided a levelling influence on the celebrities during times of tension.

“He is a great supporter of everyone and tries to make sure everyone is okay,” she said. “He looks like he’s had an amazing journey.”

Lewis Romano

Laurina Fleure’s boyfriend Lewis Romano says the former Bachelor contestant is playing the game to win.

“For sure, on this show definitely and it is working so good on her,” Lewis Romano said. “She’s a strategic game player, she’s not manipulative in the sense that she doesn’t play games with people but for the actual show that she’s doing, she does figure out people pretty quickly and people don’t realise that she acts a little bit aloof and keeps her cards close to her chest but she knows how to push everyone’s buttons.”

Flexure and Romano have been dating for just eight months but already live together and both consider the relationship to be serious.

“I think she’s made it this far because she’s just so polarising,” Romano said. “But she’s also true to herself, independent and self-assured and I think that creates for some pretty good entertainment.”

Businessman Romano believes Fleure could win the series and says it’s an opportunity for her to look at her options career-wise.

“It is a really exciting opportunity for her what comes next,” he said. “Whatever comes next could be really exciting and a career defining path for her beyond just The Bachelor and another reality program.”

As for rumours he was planning on proposing to Fleure, Romano said it is still early days in the relationship.

“Who knows,” he said, adding as a joke: “I won’t be proposing this weekend unless the production company wants to give me $100,000 to do so and then they’ll get a good finale.”
