THEIR parenting journey has just begun, but already Michael and Hailey McQueen appreciate all the cliches about enjoying every moment because babies grow up so quickly.

“It doesn’t seem quick at the time, but it isn’t even four months and Max has changed so much already,” Hailey says.

Baby Max also achieved an early milestone by deciding to sleep through the night from about eight weeks old.

Hailey had a tough end to her first pregnancy when she developed pre-eclampsia, requiring an emergency caesarian, followed by 18 hours in intensive care.

Max had been one of the couple’s favourite names since “before it became popular”, Hailey says, but it took the couple six years to become pregnant.

“We didn’t really know how popular the name had become by the time we used it,” she says.

His second name Ross comes from his maternal grandfather.

And although he may be their first child, Michael says they have adopted a low-stress parenting style, choosing to treat Max “as if he is our third child”.
