SYDNEY Roosters have handed down the first punishment to embattled Mitchell Pearce, stripping him of his co-captaincy.
Fairfax Media is reporting Pearce has had the title taken off him and he’s been suspended from the club’s leadership group.
Jake Friend will take on the sole captaincy duties as Pearce’s immediate future remains clouded.
Pearce landed back in Australia and fronted media on Monday a month after a vile Australia Day video emerged of him intoxicated at a private residence.
It is believed he will return to training later this week or early next week.
A final punishment is yet to be decided on by the Roosters and the NRL.
Fox Sports league expert Matty Johns told NRL Tonight on Monday he feels a six-game ban and $50,000 fine would be suitable.
