A startup called Good Gadgets is making a power strip that does much more than power your electronics.Â
It can:
- Become a wireless charger.
- Turn it into a USB power strip.
- Play music wirelessly.
- Extend the internet in your home (wirelessly or wired!).
- Act as a night light, so you don’t run into any night terrors.
Â
The Youmo power strip is modular, which means you can attach different modules that do different things. Check it out:
And there are a bunch of other modules in the works, too, like USB ports for smartphones and tablets and a smart module that lets you turn on or off whatever you have plugged in to the Youmo with a smartphone app.
The modules attach to a base cord that plugs in to any regular three-port outlet. At launch, Good Gadgets will also have a EU base cord you can plug into European outlets while travelling, which travellers will find especially useful.
Think about it: You’ll be able to attach the US outlet module to the EU base cord so you can power your US devices without bringing a bunch of EU adapters for each device.
You can even attach the European outlet module on the same Youmo as your US outlet module.
Good Gadgets’s Kickstarter campaign for the Youmo is already under way, and it’s surpassed its $55,560 goal with 33 days to go. If you’re interested in snagging one, a pledge of at least €30 ($33) will get you a “starter kit†with one cable and two modules.
The first powerstrip must have been a revelation when it first came out in 1972, but it was well due for an overhaul. What better time than now?
