IT’S a long way from Redfern, but sensational new ABC drama series Cleverman has found itself right at home among the glitterati at the Berlin Film festival where the indigenous story has made its world premiere.

In freezing conditions not conducive for a glamorous film gala, the cast and crew of the six-part supernatural thriller huddled together for their red carpet moment - in a rare honour for an Australian TV program.

Deborah Mailman (Redfern Now), Frances O’Connor (The Missing) and Stef Dawson (The Hunger Games) joined director Wayne Blair and and creator Ryan Griffen for the Berlinale, ahead of the show’s screening locally later this year.

The European adventure is a far cry from the humble streets of Sydney’s Redfern where the series was filmed last year.

The drama is “set in the near future, when a species from ancient mythology must live among humans and battle for survival in a world that wants to silence, exploit and destroy them.”

Central to the action are two estranged brothers, Koen West (played by Hunter Page-Lochard) and Waruu (Rob Collins), “who are forced together to fight against terrifying enemies, both human and not of this world.”

The ambitious production also stars Leah Purcell and Game Of Thrones star Iain Glenn, who were unable to travel to Berlin.

The first international reviews are expected in the next 24 hours.
