A FORMER contestant on the US version of The Bachelor has died after an apparent suicide.
Lex McAllister, who appeared on Season 14 of the popular dating show, died on Tuesday after overdosing on prescription pills, E! News is reporting. She was 31 years old.
Authorities received a call on Saturday afternoon from an unidentified caller saying McAllister had overdosed on prescription medication, according to a report from Columbus, Ohio, police.
The caller said Ms McAllister had sent them a text message earlier that day to say she wanted to end her life, the report details. The loved one rushed to her house to check on her, discovering the former contestant surrounded by empty prescription bottles.
Ms McAllister was rushed to hospital in a stable condition but her health later began to deteriorate. Her family took her off life support early on Tuesday morning.
Ms McAllister was eliminated on the first episode of The Bachelor’s 14th season in 2010. She was 25 years old at the time.
Sadly, this is not the first time tragedy has struck this particular season of The Bachelor. In 2013, model and third runner-up Gia Allemand died of a “critical loss of brain and organ function†two days after hanging herself in her home in New Orleans. She was 29.
