FORMER Prime Minister Tony Abbott forked out $2027 to repair the marble table smashed during his wild farewell party, a parliamentary committee has been told.

The cost to fix the table was finally revealed today, nearly five months after the now infamous bash held on the night of the Liberal leadership coup.

Department of Parliamentary Officials told a Senate estimates committee they had received a cheque for $2027 ($1843 plus GST) to cover the cost of replacing the marble table top.

The base of the table, which had a “minor fracture”, was repaired in-house.

The table is not yet back in use, but the committee was told the repairs should be finished soon.

Mr Abbott had reportedly agreed to pay for repairs to the table, first estimated at about $1000.

The table was believed to be damaged during a party held in Mr Abbott’s Parliament House suite the night after he was rolled for the prime ministership by Malcolm Turnbull.

Details about exactly how the table was smashed remains unknown.

The table was bought in the 1980s for $590.

It was reported Parliament House officials were kept out of the room after the September 14 party and could not inspect the damage until four days later.
