JOHHNY Depp is the new Adam Sandler.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star has been named Hollywood’s most overpaid actor, topping the 2015 Forbes list, which looks at the last three movies each actor starred in before June 2015 and compares them to their earnings.
Sandler topped the list for the last two years but was ineligible this year due to his Netflix deal. Depp, 52, came in second on Forbes’ 2014 list.
Depp’s two most recent movies, Mortdecai and Transcendence, returned a measly $1.20 for every $1 he was paid to appear in the films. He was paid a total of $US30 million in 2015.
By comparison, Avengers star Chris Evans, Hollywood’s best bang for buck actor, returned an average of $181 for every $1 he was paid.
According to Forbes, Mortdecai (co-starring Gwyneth Paltrow) grossed just $US47.3 million on a $US60 million production budget.
Transcendence earned $US103 million worldwide, barely covering its production costs.
Denzel Washington placed second, returning only $6.50 for every dollar he earned. Funnyman Will Ferrell (who topped the list in 2009 and 2010) placed third with Get Hard, followed by Liam Neeson, Will Smith, Christian Bale, Channing Tatum, Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck and Tom Cruise.
While Liam Neeson returned big in Taken 3, he was brought down by 2015 flop Run All Night.
