DESIGN diva Shaynna Blaze is pretty switched on, and so is her latest homewares range.

The interior designer by day and TV presenter by night has created a line of interior lighting products and taken a camera crew along to show her journey from A to B.

From her home town of Melbourne, Blaze takes off for Italy in episode one of the two-part Foxtel series World of Design.

There she strolls the canals of Venice, visits artists workshops on Murano, roams the streets of the incredibly colourful Burano and takes a peak behind the very stylish curtains of locals’ home in Lake Como and Milan. It’s in Milan that she attends the Milan Design Week show, a dedicated design junkie’s Disneyland.

Moved by the colours and rich history of Italy, Blaze has a flash of inspiration from the form of a whiskey glass and bottle.

Episode two shows Blaze hit the gritty streets of New York where she decides to incorporate the bold industrial lines of the city into her product line. The creative climax of the double episode comes when she takes her Italian and Manhattan-inspired designs to the grand Atlanta Design Show.

Blaze said the concept of the program was to show people how designs evolve from ideas and colours to becoming an actual product.

“Are the designs going to make it? Are they going to actually get there? And we show the pitfalls along the way. I think it’s great for people to see me vulnerable as well,” she said.

While Blaze travelled to glamorous global destinations, she said true inspiration can come from anywhere.

“I think one of the key lessons that I actually learned is that we travel the world and we get so inspired by what everyone else is doing that we forget how much talent and great design we have here in Australia,” she said.

Travelling across the globe, and with her reputation on the line, Blaze is in a race against

the clock to complete her lighting range and have it ready for Atlanta Design Show.

Shaynna’s World of Design airs on Monday, December 7 and Monday, December 14 at 8.30pm on LifeStyle HOME.
