Oprah finally explains the story behind the much laughed at ‘You get a car’ moment.

And after 25 seasons on air, it’s the moment that comes back to haunt Oprah the most.

The infamous “you get a car” giveaway happened in 2004 during an episode where the talk show queen surprised everyone in her studio audience with a Pontiac G6.

The audience went into meltdown, and it prompted Oprah to wave her arms around shouting: “You get a car! You get a car! You get a car!”

And over a decade later, Oprah has finally explained how the often joked about line came to be.

“I was saying that because people were screaming so loudly they didn’t know what was going on,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

“Prior to that moment, I had said, ‘Open up your boxes. One person has a key.’ So when I looked at the faces of the audience, they go, ‘But I have a key ... but she has a key,’ so that’s why I said, ‘You get a car! You get a car!’ to try to clarify, because they all looked so confused. Everybody gets a car!”
