People allegedly using websites to sell cannabis and methamphetamines have been busted by police, with investigators seizing more than $1 million of drugs.

A 15-year-old boy was the youngest of 28 people to be charged by police from the State Drug Squad on Thursday, as they closed out a five-month operation named North Seamonk.

Police alleging traffickers in Brisbane and the Gold Coast used popular websites to sell the drugs using codenames such as "420" for cannabis and "Crystal's back in town" for methamphetamines.

"It appears this activity has been going on for quite some time," Detective Superintendent Jon Wacker said.

"The operators of these sites are fairly IT savvy. They thought they could not be tracked, however due to our investigative methodologies we were able to locate these persons."

Superintendent Wacker said police decided to close the operation in the lead-up to Schoolies to prevent the chance of young people seeking to buy the drugs.

In August, Fairfax Media reported drug dealers were brazenly using online marketplaces to sell drugs, asking customers to contact them using encrypted messaging app Wickr.

On Friday, one popular website still boasted dozens of Brisbane drug ads, with sellers keen to swap drugs for cash and in some instances sex.

"Good quality 420 for sale, hydro and not wet. Ipswich and brisbne [sic] areas," one ad read.

Superintendent Wacker declined to name the websites police targeted during North Seamonk but confirmed some sellers were using messaging apps.

He said it appeared most of the people charged were working alone, with the key exception being a cannabis drug crop at Redbank Plains which was worth $1.1 million.

A further $100,000 of methamphetamines, LSD and cannabis was seized as part of the 21 raids which occurred on Thursday.

Six of the 28 people arrested were charged with trafficking dangerous drugs, with two charged with producing drugs.

Superintendent Wacker said police expected to make more arrests and were focusing on "four major targets".
