A New South Wales ambulance has been involved in traffic accident that killed two people.

Commissioner David Dutton said in a statement that 'just before 5 o'clock on Friday afternoon an ambulance vehicle with, two paramedics, a doctor and nurse on board was been involved in a serious collision with another motor vehicle on the Pacific Highway at Valla near Nambucca on the mid north coast'.

'Tragically the two people travelling in the other vehicle were killed in the collision despite the immediate efforts of the medical team involved in the collision to save their lives'.

'The medical team escaped serious injury in the collision however are being transported to hospital for assessment and treatment of their injuries'.

'NSW Ambulance extends its sincere sympathies to the loved ones of those killed in the crash and is providing support to the staff involved'.

'NSW Police are on scene and will investigate the cause of the collision. NSW Ambulance will co-operate fully with the investigation and is unable to make any further comment'.
