CHINESE authorities have shot dead 28 members of an alleged “terrorist group†behind a deadly attack on a colliery in September.
The terrorists went into hiding after their September 18 attack that killed 11 civilians and five police officers in the mainly Muslim region of Xinjiang in northwest China.
The attack on the coal mine was kept secret in China until this week’s official confirmation from Communist Party officials.
A massive 56-day manhunt was held through the mountainous Asku region, with police locating 29 of the alleged terrorists.
28 of the assailants were killed, and one was taken into custody after they surrendered by November 12.
The admission comes on the heels of last week’s seven deadly Black Friday Paris attacks, that killed at least 129 innocent bystanders and wounded 368 others.
Seven terrorists were also killed in the Paris attacks, as was the attack’s mastermind Abdelhamid Abaaoud in subsequent raids in the Paris suburb, St-Denis.
Following the Paris attacks, countries in Europe have been cracking down on Islamic State fighters posing as refugees.
Eight Morrocans were detained at Istanbul’s main airport, with suspicions they were planning to travel to Germany disguised as refugees.
