A MAN who allegedly said “she’s 18, it’s all good” during an alleged gang rape a 14-year-old girl has been granted bail.

Police did not want Rowan Gavin Wild to be released, saying there was an unacceptable risk he could interfere with witnesses or reoffend.

But Deputy Chief Magistrate Jelena Popovic said today that prosecutors didn’t have evidence to support their claims and that imposing bail conditions would mitigate any risks.

Wild, a 27-year-old concreter with no prior convictions, had family support and stable accommodation, and had not fled after the alleged incident in Geelong on November 1, she added.

“The accused was in the community for some 10 days between the alleged incidents and his surrender to police,” she wrote in her bail decision, handed down in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Wild and his relatives had been at a family reunion and out drinking before they allegedly came across the teenage girl and her 16-year-old male friend in a park, the court heard.

She was taken away and raped by two of the men at one address before being attacked by multiple offenders in a garage at another property, police claim.

Rowan Wild allegedly went up to those raping the girl and said: “She’s 18, it’s all good.”

The girl was then dropped back at the park and went to a nearby house to for help.

Two Melbourne brothers — Kevin Andrew Wild, 28, and Allan Mark Wild, 29 — have been remanded in custody over the alleged incident and are due to reappear in court on Friday.

Another relative, Brodie Mark Wild, 20, is also in custody after he was extradited from Queensland. Brodie Wild is expected to apply for bail on Thursday.

All four men are charged with one count each of abduction and rape.

Ms Popovic said there was no evidence Rowan Wild had raped the girl at the first address and, at the early stage of the investigation, there was nothing to suggest he was at the garage. Police allege Wild dyed his red hair black in a bid to avoid police detection, but also concede he may have done it to avoid threats from the public.

Ms Popovic ordered Wild to provide a DNA sample to police.

He is due back before court in February.

Wild’s bail conditions include that he not drink alcohol, doesn’t leave Australia and not contact his co-accused, or any people who were at the family reunion.
