A senior constable has been charged with serious assault offences relating to an incident that took place while he was on duty.

The officer from the north-west metro region was charged after an investigation by Professional Standards Command police into an arrest on May 17.

He has been charged with false imprisonment, recklessly cause serious injury, intentionally and recklessly cause injury and unlawful assault.

He is suspended with pay, but this will be reviewed, according to a police statement.

He has been summonsed to appear at Sunshine Magistrates Court on October 5.
