The next-generation Bugatti could hit 400km/h on four sections of the LeMans track.

AHEAD of the Frankfurt motor show this week, car maker Bugatti has shown off the next-generation design language for its Veyron hypercar successor, which is currently the fastest car in the world.

Bugatti’s concept car, which will be powered by a 16-cylinder engine, was described as featuring many elements that will feature in their next generation Chiron hypercar, which is expected to be unveiled in its final form in 2017.

The car which was unveiled in full flesh will appear in the racing game Gran Turismo as a virtual playable concept car.

Bugatti says the concept presents “the new form and design language developed by the brand to celebrate the next chapter in its history following the end of the Veyron era.”

Achim Anscheidt, head of the Bugatti design team said that the next Bugatti will adopt many elements of the concept, but in a slightly less radical way: “Given the nature of the project, our concept car for Vision Gran Turismo is overstated and pushes performance to the limits, but its progressive design language will clearly show the direction that Bugatti’s design will take in the coming years.”

While we won’t see the new Bugatti on a real racetrack any time soon, the Gran Turismo concept has been designed to ensure every component of the car has a real performance function. This includes strong aerodynamics and extensive use of carbon-fiber to keep it lightweight and easy to handle.

Thanks to its extreme speeds in a straight line, the next generation Bugatti could be as fast around some race tracks as an LMP1 race car, with Bugatti claiming it could hit over 400km/h in four sections of the LeMans track.

If you’re lucky enough to be in Frankfurt, the car will be on display at Bugatti’s stand from the 17th to 27th of September.
