TASMANIA is doing more than its per capita national share by offering 500 additional refugee places, Premier Will Hodgman says.

THE island state was quick to show its willingness to help when millions of displaced people began flowing out of Syria and Iraq, and Mr Hodgman told parliament on Tuesday that plans for a 100 per cent increase in annual refugee intake are progressing well.

"For a small state we are doubling our response and it is also significantly more than our per capita share of the additional (national) 12,000 refugees which would be around 300," he said.
