JOÃO Cândido received some funny looks when he started questioning those buying cigarettes in the store where he was filling in as a shop assistant.
The funny looks may have been because of his personal questions but also because of his electronic-sounding voice, which can only be heard when a small device is held up to his throat.
The video, uploaded by Brazilian ad agency OpusMúltipla, shows Cândido telling his cancer story to other strangers who smoke.
A camera watches the reactions of the people’s faces as Cândido tells them that despite not smoking for 14 years, he still contracted larynx cancer, which ended in the removal of his vocal chords.
“This is the moment,†says one customer when questioned about her reaction. “This is the time to stop. It’s now.â€
The video was on 53 views at time of writing. The video was also uploaded to the Facebook page of Paraná State Government and stands at almost 270,000 views.
