Nine-year-old Joel lives in a Los Angeles suburb. He has always had trouble reading and keeping up in school. Not long ago, his family hit their lowest point. Joel's dad was in jail and his mom was down to just $14 to live on. It was then that Pastor Saul from a nearby church visited Joel and his mom. The pastor brought them Food Paks, and told them about the hope that is in the gospel.
Joel enjoyed the stories in the bible so much that he reading began to read it himself. His reading drastically improved as he eagerly read story after story. Joel is now in the highest reading group in his class. In fact, he studies, memorizes, and even writes his own sermons, which he preaches to his friends!
